Installation Notes – Network Users.htm
1. Keep the Old QwikQuote Server Location
Running
Try to keep you old QwikQuote Server Location in your quoting software system working
in the process, and only remove the old QwikQuote Server location in your
quoting software setup after the new QwikQuote Server location works properly
and every workstation in your quoting software network system has pointed to
the new Server Location.
This is because each QwikQuote workstation in the quoting software must start
up properly so as to be able to point to the new QwikQuote Server Location in
your quoting software system and then re-do configure against the new QwikQuote
Server Location in your quoting software system.
Otherwise, you might encounter the following error message
Note: In case your old QwikQuote Server
Location in your quoting software system crashed before you setup new
QwikQuote Server Location is ready so that you have no chance to do this
normally. In this case, consider the following approaches:
a: If you have latest QwikQuote release (6.5.005 or later
versions), it will prompt you the situation
and then will allow you to start QwikQuote and then re-do
configure.
It is a good idea to update your quoting software system to
the latest version.
b: For some old release, you can try to re-name the
QwikQuote settings file at:
C:\Windows\QQuote6.INI
Note: In Vista, Windows
7 or later computers, the file may stay at your virtual store.
This will let QwikQuote thinks there in no settings available
and then try to re-do configure.
c: Try to download and un-zip the files into your QQ6 main
folder at:
http://www.qwikquote.com/DevTemp/qqLicConfig.zip
This is try to add the newer build QQLicCongig.exe and
support files
so as to run QQLicCongig.exe to let you do
re-configure.
d: For some older release,
it is no way to start QwikQuote if the pointed Server
Location is not available
so you must un-install QwikQuote and then re-install it
again.
Note: All your other settings will not be changed.
Feel free to do it in case you need to.
2. Setup a new QwikQuote server location
Create a shared folder
at any computer or server in your quoting software system and any hard disk on
that computer and make it shared by all users and give Full Control rights
over this shared folder for all users who will run QwikQuote in your quoting
software system.
You can think about to create a user group for QwikQuote users in your quoting
software setup so that you can add that user group at once instead of add one
user by one user and give that user group Full Control rights to the shared folder. If you
know you are in a save network environment in your quoting software setup, you
can just give everyone Full
Control rights over this shared folder in your quoting software.
3. Copy Everything from Old Location to
New Location
Copy everything from the folder from old QwikQuote server location your quoting
software system to the new shared QwikQuote Server Location your created above in
your quoting software setup. This will make files and folder structures not
changed in your new quote software server location as if everything is the same
after re-do the configure from any workstation in your quoting software setup.
4. Configure New QwikQuote Server
Location
Then, on any of working QwikQuote workstation in your quoting software setup do
a QwikQuote server location configuration against the new shared QwikQuote server
location your created above in your quoting software setup and when ask if this
workstation want to configured to run QwikQuote, answer Yes. (You know how to
do this in your detailed steps)
5. Re-do Configure for Each Workstation
against New QwikQuote Server Location
Then for each other workstation computers in your quoting software setup who
need to run as QwikQuote client against new QwikQuote Server Location just find
the new server location by browsing to the new server location configured above
step 4 and then do a workstation configuration only.
Note: If a workstation in your quoting
software setup has too old program that is not able to understand the new serial
number format, you will see the following error message as:
In this case, the workstation in your quoting software setup needs to
update the QwikQuote version
so that it can understand the new serial number format.
6. Run Organize.exe
to Re-Create the Quote and Report Database
This is because
though you copied those databases and quotes files in your old quoting software
setup from old location to your new quoting software setup server location but
the quote file locations in those copied databases are pointed to older server locations.
Re-create Quote and Report databases will make them point to new file locations
regarding to your new QwikQuote Server Location in your quoting software setup.
In this way, you can properly search and report with old quotes files included
in your new quote software server location setup.
Note:
The new server location configured is not activated. You need to activated it
within 30
days by get new Activate Key from support@qwikquote.com
Note:
Re-install QwikQuote and re-configure QwikQuote running mode
both will not change your QwikQuote settings.
Feel free to do so in case you need to.
